Technip chooses Cascade actuators for its new eMAX marine loading arm series

Technip Energies Loading Systems has chosen Cascade actuators for its new eMAX marine loading arm series, emphasizing the importance of fast, reliable, and environmentally friendly loading and unloading systems in ports.

Marine loading arms (MLAs) are used in ports and on marine platforms to transfer liquid products such as petrochemicals, LNG, ammonia or liquid CO2. Traditionally controlled by hydraulics, this new generation of Technip MLAs will be fully electric and powered by Cascade Drive's heavy-duty actuators.

A strategic partnership

Eric Morilhat, Managing Director of Technip Energies Loading Systems, and Kristian Floresjö, CEO of Cascade Drives, at the signing ceremony.

Technip and Cascade Drives have formed a strategic partnership to further develop and integrate Cascade Drives' electric actuators into the eMAX products. The signing ceremony took place during Technip Energies' 50th anniversary celebration in Sens, France. France's Minister of Industry and Energy, Roland Lescure, added a bit of extra flair to the celebrations.

Our cutting-edge technology of electric actuators is perfect for the specific requirements of a marine loading system. An MLA needs to be super reliable, work in any weather, require very little maintenance and adapt to all kinds of ships and cargo. Our actuators excel in all these aspects, instilling confidence in their reliability, and we are thrilled to be partnering with Technip - the undisputed leader in this industry.

Kristian Floresjö, CEO of Cascade Drives

A way for ports to go green. Fast.

The partnership covers retrofitting Technip's hydraulic-based MLA customers with new electric actuators, in addition to customers investing in new eMAX technology. This is a great way for eco-concious ports to eliminate the risk of dangerous hydraulic oil spills and quickly get a cleaner work environment.

Cascade's linear actuators in marine loading arms

Upgrading from older hydraulic systems to modern electric actuators can not only benefit the environment, but also provide several advantages.

  • These actuators are designed to fit the purpose and can be easily adapted to existing mounting points.

  • By using non-pressurized linear actuators, the need for maintenance and service is significantly reduced.

  • Additionally, the back driveability functionality of these actuators ensures that the loading arm can follow the ship's movements.

  • Electric actuators allow for a high degree of automation and diagnostics, which further improves the efficiency of the system.
